The Pass

The Pass

Snoqualmie Pass has always been well known by local Native Americans. In the early-1800s The Hudson Bay Trading Company began to use the pass as an easier option than the Naches Pass to travel between Eastern and Western Washington. By 1865 Seattle area settlers built a "road" designed for wagons and cattle drives. In 1909 the Pacific Railroad built an extension across the pass, which was abandoned in the 1980s. In 1927 the road was paved and became known as Highway 10, to be replaced in 1969 by Interstate 90.
